In response to a special request from Lama Tsultrim Allione, during this unique retreat, Drubpön Lama Karma will provide teachings on supplementary texts to the Garland of Jewels (Rinchen Trengwa) chöd tradition. This may be the only opportunity for our sangha to receive these specific teachings which complement and enhance the practice of the Garland of Jewels.

Teachings will be given on the following texts:

  1.    The Chöd Tradition of One Hundred Torma Offerings
  2.    The Chöd Tradition of Six Kinds of Services
  3.    Overcoming the Obstacles of the Four Elements

With the Chöd Tradition of One Hundred Torma Offerings, practitioners offer one hundred tormas to maras on behalf of those who are facing hardships, such as people with medical issues.

With the Chöd Tradition of Six Kinds of Services, practitioners offer one’s flesh and blood as services to maras to overcome any obstacles, especially health related obstacles.

With Overcoming the Obstacles of the Four Elements, practitioners balance inner body elements such as flesh, blood, heat and breath with their respective outer elements such as earth, water, fire and air to retain their health.

The Chöd practices that are associated with these texts are supplementary practice to the Garland of Jewels composed by His Holiness the Third Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje. They are practiced in monasteries and nunneries across Tibet, Bhutan and India. In the words of Drubpön Lama Karma, “everyone who engages in Rinchen Trengwa should have both textual knowledge of these texts and the practices that come with them.”

We encourage those who have received prior teachings on the Rinchen Trengwa (Garland of Jewels) chöd tradition and its practice to attend.

This retreat is Open To All but some background with Tibetan Buddhism and Vajrayana is recommended.

Participants will need to have a Chod drum and bell (and kangling if you have one), all of which can be purchased at our Dakini Store before or when you arrive. Dharma attire is also encouraged. This includes anything white and/or in the red color spectrum between deep purple to pink including red. We have these available for purchase in the shop or for hire at registration for a $30 deposit which will be returned to you at the end of the retreat with the return of whatever you have borrowed. You are also free to wear any clothes you have in this color spectrum as long as they cover your arms and legs.

Suggested Dana: $240 – $300
